2017 Global Cities Forum Successfully Held in Shanghai

On October 29-30, 2017, the Global Cities Forum was held in the Xuhui Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University to celebrate the World Cities Day. This forum was co-hosted by the SDRC, Shanghai Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, UN-HABITAT and the World Bank. On the afternoon of October 28, Vice Mayor Shi Guanghui met with Joan Clos, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, who made a special trip to Shanghai to attend the 2017 Global Cities Forum. Jiang Sixian, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People's Congress, Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Dean of China Institute for Urban Governance, attended the closing ceremony of the forum and delivered a closing speech. 

Joan Clos, UN Under-Secretary-General, Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, Bekele Debele, Director of Office for Country Operations and Sustainable Development, World Bank China, Hou Yongzhi, Head of the Department of Development Strategy and Regional Economic Research at Development Research Center of State Council, Gu Feng, Deputy Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Huang Haijun, Vice President of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Chen Gaohong, Former Vice President of Shanghai Institute of Urban Governance of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Former Director of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee of Xuhui District in Shanghai attended the forum. Jiang Xiaolong, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Management Committee, introduced the revision of the "Shanghai Handbook" at the opening ceremony. Yan Jun, Deputy Director-general of the SDRC, made a speech at the opening ceremony. At the closing ceremony, Xu Zheng, Deputy Inspector, presented the awards to teams who won the second and third prize at the third College Student Urban Governance Case Challenge. Also present at this forum are experts and scholars from well-known universities and academic research institutions, teachers and students from higher education institutions, and media representatives in nearly 20 countries and regions.
